Westlake football hangs on for 56-55 win over Rocky River

WESTLAKE, Ohio – Running back JaQuan Hardy scored seven touchdowns and the Demons defense stopped a two-point conversion in the final minute to hang on for a 56-55 win over Rocky River.

Hardy ran 20 times for 232 yards and scored from 5, 54, 9, 14, 49, 14, and 4 yards in the victory.

Rocky River quarterback Matt Lowry plunged in from 1 yard out with 30 seconds left before Westlake stopped the two-point try to give the Demons the win.

The Pirates opened the scoring when Lowry found Patrick Connors for a 24-yard touchdown and an early 7-0 lead. Lowry added touchdown runs of 21 and 30 yards for River.

With the game tied at 28 at halftime, Derek Moore returned the second half kickoff 74 yards for a touchdown to give the Demons a 35-28 lead.
